Hurricane Season: Why Are August, September & October the Most Active Months?

The hurricane season runs from June to November, but the peak activity happens between August and October. Why?

✅ Warmer ocean waters: The Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico reach their highest temperatures. This warm water is the fuel hurricanes need to form and intensify.
✅ Less wind shear: These months have lower vertical wind shear, allowing storms to grow without being torn apart.
✅ Higher humidity and ideal conditions: Everything aligns for storms to form faster and become more powerful.

🎯 How to Prepare for the Most Active Months:

🔹 Review your insurance policy: Are you covered for wind and flood damage?
🔹 Create a family emergency and evacuation plan.
🔹 Stock up on supplies: water, food, medicine, batteries, flashlights, fuel.
🔹 Prepare your home: check your roof, gutters, windows, and nearby trees.
🔹 Save digital copies of important documents.

💡 Don’t wait until a hurricane is already on its way. August, September, and October are critical. Preparedness protects your family and your home.

🌀 Deadline Alert: File Your Hurricane Milton Insurance Claim Before October 9, 2025

This deadline applies to property damage claims under your standard homeowners or commercial insurance policy.

🏚 What About Flood Damage?
If you experienced flooding during Hurricane Milton and have a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy, the rules are slightly different.

FEMA has extended the proof of loss deadline to 120 days from the date of loss — giving you extra time to submit the documentation needed to support your flood claim. This means if your flood loss occurred on October 9, 2024, your proof of loss must be submitted by February 6, 2025.

⏳ Why These Deadlines Matter
Failing to file your claim or proof of loss in time could mean:

Your claim gets denied.

You lose your right to recover funds for repairs or personal property replacement.

You miss out on benefits you’re legally entitled to.

✅ What You Should Do Now
Check your insurance policy for specific reporting requirements.

Gather documentation (photos, receipts, contractor estimates).

Submit your claim before the October 9, 2025 deadline.

If your claim was denied or underpaid, speak to a licensed public adjuster or attorney.

Need help understanding your options? Don’t wait until it’s too late. Whether you’re dealing with wind, water, or flood damage — professional guidance can help you maximize your claim.
